Ask a child to draw something, and you never really know what you’re going to get.

One child may draw a colourful house with a green sun. Another may fill the page with superheroes. Someone else may make a tiny family picture in one corner and leave the rest of the page completely empty.

And honestly, that’s okay.

Children don’t always create the way adults expect them to. They don’t worry about whether the colours match or whether the drawing looks “right.” They simply put their ideas on paper.

That freedom is something we should encourage.

Instead of giving children a topic every time they sit down with their colours, why not sometimes tell them, “Draw whatever you feel like drawing today.”

You may be surprised by what they come up with.
