George Arliss

London-born George Arliss, star of stage and screen, worked in his father's publishing office until at age 18 he played London's West End in supporting roles. He made his Broadway debut in the early 1900s, later appearing in several silent films. This autobiography covers his career before transitioning to sound films. Having played the part of Benjamin Disraeli, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in the 1860s and 1870s, both on stage and in a silent film, he later won an Academy Award in 1929 for the lead role in the sound film Disraeli.
