C.E.M. Joad

Cyril Edwin Mitchinson (C.E.M.) Joad (1891-1953) was a British philosopher and educator. He received a broad education at various schools including Oxford and the University of London. He became popular in the 1940s as a radio broadcaster with the BBC hosting a show called The Brain Trust. Joad floated through intellectual society, mingling with such luminaries as John Strachey, H. G. Wells and Julian Huxley. He wrote many books on history and philosophy. He was a committed pacifist and an admirer of Gandhi. He contributed to a collection of essays to celebrate Gandhi's 70th birthday.
